There have been many times in my life when I have asked the question,
“Am I worth it?”
Or, probably more often…
“What’s the point of my life?”
Take a look at this.

These are three generations of your ancestors—my grandparents and great-grandparents.
They lived through times I can hardly imagine. Some of them had terribly difficult lives. Others lived lives that were comfortable, even privileged. They were all unique, living different stories, making different choices.
But each one of them held their place in time, present and accounted for. Never giving up. And because they lived, their lives eventually led to you!
Think about that for a moment.
Through all the years, all the hardships, all the ordinary days and extraordinary ones… through marriages and births, losses and triumphs, national catastrophes, depressions, storms, trials, mistakes and second…third….fourth….chances…
Then… there was You
You are the result of an unbroken chain of human lives stretching back through generations. From the beginning of time. One link in a very long chain, of a very long story, leading to a very brilliant ending.
They didn’t know your name. Equally, they never saw your beautiful face. What you will become and do throughout your life was and is completely unknown. All they understood was that there will be others to follow.
They may not have left behind great words of wisdom or monuments with their names carved into stone. The world as a whole will not remember them. Their names may only be written on the bathroom stalls of life.
But they were here.
They left their little “I was here” upon this earth in the only way most of us ever do—by living their lives, loving who they loved, raising their families, working, struggling, laughing, crying, and leaving something of themselves behind.
And now…
You are here.
I know without a doubt, each one of them would stand and say, with everything they experienced and survived, knowing you were to come….
YOU ARE WORTH IT!

And, do you want to know who else thinks you’re worth it?
God does.
The Great God Above Values You
Matthew 10:31 reminds us: God takes more pleasure in seeing you than the sparrows.
Luke 12:7 tells us that God knows even the number of hairs on your head.
The God who created the universe knows you intimately.
And Ephesians 2:10 implies you are his greatest Masterpiece. You are living art!
Not an accident. Definitely, not an afterthought. You are His.
My most favorite Scripture of all time is this….. Isaiah 43:4.
It reads:
“Since thou was precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee.”
God says it right there in black and white:
I LOVE YOU.

Sounds like He thinks you’re worth it, too.
Just Breathe
So, it appears, darling, that the only one who keeps wondering whether you’re worth it…is you. Hmmmmm.

When those times come, step outside.
Close your eyes.
Take a deep breath. Just Breathe.
Then say out loud:
“All of creation is in balance together, and I am a very small, but very vital part of that.”
Then listen.
Listen to the birds,
the wind moving through the trees,
all the little sounds of life happening around you.
And while the mosquitoes try their very best to suck every last drop of blood out of your body, remember this:
You belong here.
You matter.
This beautiful thing called life, offers you a role.
Truly, if countless generations of people you have never met could somehow help bring you here…
And, if God wants you here….
then, darling, I think you oughtta stick around and see what happens next.
You’ve got this!
